For me, the little things truly make my day. I don’t mean this to be cheesy. I genuinely get excited when I learn a new trick for example in Excel or Word. Just recently (and I can’t believe I’m admitting it), I learned that if you have a couple tabs open in one Internet Explorer window, you can actually drag out each tab into its own window (which is also great if you have two monitors). It seems simple and a little silly, but I find these small discoveries can make a difference, and at a time when it can be so tough to run a business, why not find reasons to get excited?

First, a look back

For those of you who don’t know me, working for Telefini is still relatively new. For the vast majority of my professional life, I worked for Boys & Girls Clubs. I know, I know. You’re wondering how in the world I went from working with children everyday to working for a phone company, but that’s another story. For now, I bring this up simply to say that no matter what you do in life, it’s important to make it exciting and enjoyable. Believe me, after coming from a job where I worked with amazing youth and could pretty much guarantee I’d have time to play games every day (and have it considered part of my job), I wasn’t sure I could ever top that. To be honest, you really can’t beat working with, supporting, and inspiring youth, but that’s not a big surprise. However, there are some pretty awesome aspects about our phone systems, including Voicemail to Email, that make working with Telefini exciting in its own way.

Discovering Voicemail to Email

When startingat Telefini, I ofcourse spent a fair amount of time learning about our ShoreTel phones, how VoIP technology actually works, and how our phones help customers. Reading lists and fact sheets though was nothing compared to experiencing how our phones work first hand. I’m sure you remember how the first few days at a new job typically run. You go through some version of an orientation, receive your email address and phone extension, learn where the extra supplies are kept, and so on and so forth. The process was fairly similar for me. We set up Call Manager on my computer, tested out my extension, and configured the Find Me/Follow Me option (learn more about these features here). It wasn’t until a week or so after everything was set up (and the work truly started) that it happened. I was meeting a colleague in the afternoon at a coffee shop, so I grabbed my laptop and headed there a little early. After ordering, I found a table, fired up the computer, and there it was: a new voicemail waiting for me in my inbox! (Fun Fact: Voicemail to email sends voice messages to your email as an audio file so you can listen to it through your computer speakers) I know for some, this may seem like an insignificant little feature, but I was ecstatic. There I was in this coffee shop, and I could actually listen to a voicemail that was left on my desk phone. My exact thought was, “Our phones are so cool!” (Remember, I worked with kids for years – I’m allowed to use the word “cool” for a while longer.)

As I’ve said, it’s important to enjoy what you do or find excitement in your business any way you can. Discovering Voicemail to Email was the first time I felt truly energized about what Telefini offers, and I have to tell you, it just keeps getting better.
